Linoleum Block Printmaking Workshop @ YAC

printmaking examples 1.jpg

I am thrilled with the YACsters who participated in my first printmaking workshop last week! Special thanks to Raven Cook, Carmen Urcioli, Emilio Sapien, Lexy Marcuson, and Marian Fecha for attending & participating.

Here is my example piece that I completed along with the YACsters.

It can be a little daunting to teach something that involves a piece of equipment that is as potentially dangerous as the printmaking press. I had to really drill it in that you can seriously injure yourself.... thankfully I was taken seriously & there were no injuries!

I especially was thrilled that two artists in particular really took to the process of printmaking. Carmen & Raven produced some incredible blocks and pulled a lot of prints with color variations! I can't wait for the rest to get into more printing.

It was really awesome to guide these talented young artists in a new medium!

Here's what Carmen & Raven had to say on their social media...

Resin Bee Earrings are officially launched on Etsy!

I am very happy and proud to launch my line of resin bee earrings. I have been perfecting these for a while, and having a good space to work on these was a huge reason I ended up with my studio at ArtWorks!

2 different kinds of mold making techniques, 2 brands of casting epoxy, a couple dozen hours on YouTube and Pinterest doing research, and a few good artist friends to bounce my ideas off later and I have them all packaged up nice in my Etsy shop.

I'm not expecting them to win any awards on the merit of their sculptural quality but there is just something so satisfying about creating them that keeps me going. Brainstorming up new ways to decorate or arrange them could occupy an entire afternoon, easily.

Studio Tour Wrap-Up!

I am pleased to report that I had an absolutely fabulous Open Studio Tour both weekends!

I had many great conversations about art techniques, the local area, and some chatting about old technology.

Unexpectedly for me, my print "Floppy" was my biggest seller. I will definitely be expanding this illustration series!

I am looking forward to next year's. But next time, I am going to make sure I give myself time on one weekend to go out and see other people's open studios for myself! There were a lot of great shows I missed from manning the ship at Meheen Ruby Art.
